OPINION: Naj Oleari Make-up *FAIL*

I am always looking for new make-up to try and test out because I just can't stick to one brand for anything, I believe there's always a better one around the corner whether it's foundation, concealer, lipsticks, I just have to try them all. 

Last week I was having a little browse through Fragrance Direct, which is amazing btw, drugstore and big name brands for a fraction of the price! And I came across a brand I genuinely have never seen before; Naj Oleari. Whilst looking through their products it was evident you'd be saving at least £3-£10 purchasing on the site so it much be a bigger well established brand than I thought so I did some digging and bought a few products to try. Turns out they are an Italian fashion brand that create clothing, accessories, homeware, umbrellas and more. Looking through their website their products have such a Cath Kidston vibe about them using fruity and floral prints to make it very cutesy. 

Anyway back to make-up. Let's start with the product I was most hesitant about; The "Perfect Look Kit". This includes a foundation and concealer stick but on the website there was no type of hint as to what shade the foundation was which was worrying, I even asked Customer Service and tried to Google it but it was nowhere to be seen, suspicious. but still, I decided to try it out as I can't really complain at the £2.49 price tag can i?

I had EVERY right to be concerned, just look at the colour! This was horrific. The most depressing thing was that the coverage and foundation itself was so nice against my skin and really easy to blend, but unfortunately, I don't work for Willy Wonka so the colour was a complete disaster and ultimately this is where it ended up.

So, that hasn't given me much faith in the rest of the products I bought! Next was the eyeliner and although I'm not the biggest fan of thicker applicators the precision and outcome was surprisingly good for a gal who can't get her flicks on fleek! This Easy Eyeliner retails for around £6.99 and Fragrance Direct sell it for £2.99, amazing.

So things are starting to look up for this brand. Last but not least were their lipsticks which I had high hopes for because I'm a sucker for a lippy. This one is the Deep Rouge 8hr Totally Matte Lipstick in the shade Orchidea which is a lovely dark dusty pink colour.

What I loved about this too is the packaging. The top and the box it comes in is matte so of course there's no confusion and the lipstick was so lovely to apply it wasn't dry against your lips or sticky and it felt and looks very luxurious. The retail price for the lipstick is £9.95 where I got it for £2.99, what an absolute bargain!

The final product I tested was the Affinity Lipstick which is creamy as opposed to matte which I got in this lovely deep plum shade. The colour looks a little different to the picture on the website but nonetheless I loved it. This is probably my favourite product of Naj Oleari which is different as I love matte lip colours but something about this I really loved! Again, retailing for £9.95 I saved £6.96 paying only £2.99 which is really inexpensive for such a good lipstick. Definitely comparable to MAC I think.

So all in all, not a complete disaster despite the foundation fiasco that I was not happy about, my hairline still has a orange tinge to it! Other than the Affinty Lipstick, I don't think I'd pay full price for any of this personally. The eyeliner you can easily get a cheaper dupe and the matte lipstick was good but didn't have everything to add up to the original price.

REVIEW | Lasting Finish 25 Hour Breathable Foundation

I have waited so long to do a review of this but honestly, I've not been near a drugstore to pick it up until I completely ran out of it's sister product Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation. Anyway since this has been my Holy Grail product since about 18 years old (as I've noted a thousand times before) It was time to test this out, finally!

Now, let's get down to what the foundation states:

"Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Breathable Foundation is a lightweight skin perfecting foundation with medium coverage. Breathable skin technology that moisturises for up to 25hr. With SPF 20"

Sounds promising, however as I am such a advocate for full coverage foundation, I was a little apprehensive as to how well I was going to get on with it and whether it will cover to my desire.

I always get Rimmel foundations in 100 Ivory as I am Casper the Ghost's sister and even that is still dark for me! I must admit when I opened the lid I was pleasantly surprised (and a little excited) about the applicator. It's a stick with a sponge end which is the complete contrast to original which is just a pump with no applicator. 

I suppose you can apply this directly to the skin however I decided to dab a few swabs onto my blending sponge and applied it that way and honestly as I first I wasn't convinced. It felt so lightweight like I wasn't covering any blemishes it literally just felt like a moisturiser however when I actually looked at my complexion I was proven wrong. Admittedly it's buildable so I did need to apply more product until I was comfortable but I couldn't fault it and like I said, how it felt against my skin, it didn't feel caked on yet looked almost flawless.

It also worked well with the rest of my make-up routine (you can read about what products I use here) blending together lovely. So, honestly if you're looking for a light-medium coverage more moisturising foundation that doesn't feel caked on your skin, this is an amazing alternative to the original product by Rimmel.

However, I am a sucker for full coverage so it's not a complete replacement just yet!

How I Fake Confidence

When it comes to my job there's no hiding, you have to be confident and outgoing to make an impression on those thousands of guests who pay good dollar to be on holiday, after all, they're after the high quality service. However, anyone who really knows me would have gone through this life journey with me and in actual fact most of the time, it's a total facade. I'm self-conscious, anxious and often quiet around new people. That's right people, I'm a total fake but I'm going to let you into the secrets of how exactly I completely blag my way through life.

• Make an effort with yourself. This is such a materialistic way to start but I believe that if you take that little bit of time to do your hair and make-up and even tan yourself up, you're already half way there because looking good makes you feel good. Am I right? Not many girls can say they feel 100% confident with their hair in a top knot, joggers on and Au Natural.

• Put on your favourite outfit. Of course this applies if you don't have work or a uniform but even so just style it to suit you with your favourite accessories. You can tell when someone feels comfortable in and enjoys what they're wearing as apposed to over-dressing or wearing something not your style, you aren't fooling anyone we know you feel awkward and conscious. Of course I'm all for taking risks but ensure you feel happy before stepping foot in public.

• Walk with your head up. Put that phone away for a change, we all are guilty of clinging onto it as a safety guard to avoid awkward eye contact or conversations but when you look and feel good, show that off. People may disagree that they hate being noticed but walking past someone with your head up will make them take a second look, you look more approachable and I don't know about you but knowing someones acknowledged you or your effort will boost your confidence that extra step.  

• Smile. This fits in with my previous tip. As much as you think your resting bitch face is doing you favours, it doesn't. Simply smiling to whoever you walk past, whether they smile back or not will actually also put the other person in a good mood aswell. After all, smiles are infectious. The only downside is I'm so used to smiling in my job that when I'm that friendly out of uniform I get a few odd looks but trust me, it works.

• Don't overthink. I think I can speak on behalf of everyone that 9 times out of 10 we rehearse what we want to say in our heads beforehand even if it's for an appointment, a phone call or what you're ordering for dinner. But sometimes it's beneficial to drop that filter in everyday life. Letting your words run free tends to reflect more of your personality even if you are a bit shy. Say something cheeky, be sarcastic, make a joke because actually you will have more of an impression on that person (good or bad) that if you kept your mouth shut. Obviously this is only to an extent, don't be inappropriate or rude and know when to be quiet (word vomit is a genuine disease for me) but it definitely helps the conversation flow that little bit more.

And that is pretty much it. I hope this will help you fake confidence as much as it does me. Of course, there are days I do none of the above but trust me, all this tips will have an impact on your confidence overall, you just have to take a chance and embrace it.

Winter Beauty Killer | Make-up Routine

Hello lovelies,

I don't know about you but when it comes to this time of year, in between snuggling in my pajamas most of the time with the heating on and a good cuppa, I always find the motivation to look more "glam". Maybe it's because Winter is known for awards season and just parties in general dazzling yourself in sparkles and it being more acceptable than ever, I just enjoy sitting down and actually putting my face on and making an effort in an attempt to brighten up this gloomy weather.

That in mind, I thought I'd share my favourite make-up routine and what products I use to achieve this look.

First of all, let's start with eyes. I always find it so much easier to do eye make-up first that way I can be as messy as I want and wipe away any mistakes without worrying about my foundation ruining. Common sense really. Although it's a complete contrast colour to the festive season, I thought applying pink shadow would just add a bit of light softness to the usual bold trend of winter make-up. I used the Beauty Killer Palette by Jeffery Starr which is full of vibrant colours usually suitable for summer however I use this all year around. I took the shade Princess as a base colour (it's actually a pale pink, excuse the brightness ruining the colours!) then I apply a little bit Star Power, which is a vibrant pink ever so slightly to deepen the colour to get more of a subtle Barbie shade.

If you struggle with eyeliner like me, Glam Eyes by Rimmel London is perfect for dummies because of it's precision applicator it even makes my attempt look somewhat decent! I then finish off with Miss Manga Mega Volume Mascara from L'oreal Paris, because my eyelashes are naturally long but light, this mascara just thickens them up giving that falsh lash effect.

Now time for base and I've used the Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation by Rimmel on and off for years. It's just my Holy Grail product, I need full coverage that takes me through some gruelling shifts and this has never failed to impress me since I was about 18. They've actually brought out a "breathable" version this year which is more of a medium coverage that I'm looking forward to trying out for days I don't need much warpaint! Now for concealer, I used a mixture of Natural Collection's Liquid Concealer and a Cover-Stick. This one is from Poundland and is actually better than most coversticks I've used. Together they attack any dark circles or blemishes I have and actually covers my Chicken Pox scars above my lip instead of sinking into them. I then set it all with a Pressed Powder which is also from Poundland, it doesn't cake up at all and it's a bargain!

Last but not least a little bit of contouring. For this I cheat and just use Rimmel Kate Moss Sculpting Palette which does the work for you and tells you what goes where. (I often wonder how I'm a girl) it just accentuates my high cheekbones and stops me looking like a potato. I finish off with the Undress Your Skin Powder Highlighter from MUA which is so pigmented it's crazy for it's price!

Veleza; The Go-To Beauty App!

Do you often seek advice on what beauty products to buy, have beauty products you just love to rant and rave about or just love all things beauty? Then Veleza is the perfect app for you!

Perfect if you're someone like me who loves everyone knowing what you think!

A new feature was introduced the past few days which is earning gems for being active on Veleza so the more you post the more gems you get and the higher you rank! Just a cute added extra to motivate you to post.

What's really cute about the notifications section is you can see when people write a new post and review aswell as who liked yours and followed you. It's so much easier to catch up on as the Discover section doesn't have everyone's posts on there.

Here is where you can see other members posts! I've been inspired by so many of these and bought a ton of products others have tried and tested. The best thing about this is it's real people testing real products, no fake advertising, just pure love!

This section is where you can find products yourself based on what you want and are looking for. Most products on here are drugstore and affordable, even telling you the prices which is super handy!

Finally, my favourite bit of the app, the Discuss section! Here you can seek advice from your fellow app users for whatever you're after. It's like a beauty forum just ask a question then others comment suggesting the best products in their opinion. This is what makes Veleza a community app as a whole.

How Natural Is Your Natural Look?

I was sat at home the other morning contemplating what make-up look to wear, it was a day I was working so I didn't want heavy coverage and a full face so decided to go with Natural/wearable/easy to do. Perfect. 

However, when it came to doing my makeup it actually dawned on me when I was pulling out different products I was going to use that there is actually more effort to my natural look than I originally thought. So how natural really is my natural look?

So much for the I just woke up and glided out of bed effect. There are so many products nowadays encouraging this toned down look that we don't realise the amount of makeup we are applying just to get that impression of "we've haven't even tried" because the majority of us are too scared to go out bare-faced the real way. 

It's definitely a confidence issue, there was a period of time I did really look after my skin that I felt brave enough to ditch the makeup and go out without the slightest hint of foundation but with my redness, dark under eyes and blemishes there was no way in hell I would now.

The make-up remover test was also a revelation when I had to almost use two wipes just to get this understated look off my mug. 

Is it really worth it? 
Wouldn't it be more worthwhile to do a full face instead?

Oops. 

Well to be honest I love dolling up and toning down so for me it's not that much of an issue but I wanted to share with everyone what an eye opener this was for me. 

Yeah, I'd probably save a hell of a lot of make-up if I just braved it but what's the point if you're insecure and uncomfortable? The power of makeup is certainly too hard to resist nowadays.

REVIEW: Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes +

Today is going to be a beauty rave my loves since I haven't done one in a long time.

Have you ever wanted long lashes but absolutely loathe applying fake lashes? Then I highly recommend this product.

Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes + claims it increases your lashes by up to 400% with its micro-fibers and it couldn't be more true.

See I was lucky enough to be blessed with long lashes anyway so I was a bit sceptical as to whether it would be any good for me but it really does give that false lash effect and volumises amazingly. 

AND it's so easy to use;

First you apply your normal every day mascara onto your lashes, then you coat on the Transplanting Gel and then apply the 3D micro fibers straight away to create that lengthy look. It can be a messy job and you can repeat this step however many times you desire but just get a clean mascara brush and comb your lashes to remove the excess and seperate your lashes.

It originally is a bit on the pricey side if you purchase from the Younique website for £23 but you can get it for an absolute bargain price from £4.99 (sometimes cheaper if you bid!) on Ebay and it's the actual legitimate product.

Baby It's Cold Outside ...

So, now the random spout of sunny weather in October is over it's now blowing Gail's (not Platt) and raining at every moment. That mixed together makes a sad, wet and windswept Katie. But just because the weather is terrible and it makes you look terrible doesn't mean what you wear has to be!

For a change, I actually made an effort today for a little shopping trip instead of leggings and hoodies so I thought I'd share. Plus I LOVE this outfit.

What a cosy little ensemble to fight off the cold and dreariness of Winter!

I absolutely adore this leather jacket I got last Christmas, it actually keeps me warm and has detachable fur so you can wear it all year around! It was £49.99 from New Look but at the time it was an Online Exclusive but I know this year they do jackets VERY similar to this. (Click here) I also want the brown version!

I've always wanted a jumper dress but the turtle neck style usually panicks me, I don't like things tight around my neck but I fell in love with this when I saw it and it was pretty much what I had been describing for a while now and for £10 from Primark can I really complain? I had to get a size bigger because they were out of 10's but I'm actually glad I did because it isn't tight fitted and its more cosy and free, although the long sleeves are a bit too long.

I have been livinnnnn in these boots! They are so comfy and have a flat heel so they don't even ache after a while. They are knee high and have a quilted design with a smooth panel at the back so it isn't harsh to your legs. These were a bargain of £25 from Very (click here) and I think it's perfect because Boots and jumper dresses are such staple items that everyone should own in their wardrobe!

This Week's Primark Bargain Revelations.

So I decided to take a little trip to Primark and pick up a few bits and bobs since I hadn't been there in a while and I was so impressed with their A/W range I wanted to buy the whole shop! I will go back and buy everything but I resisted and sticked to the basics I needed to get.

Okay, first up I picked up a 5 pack of Silver (White) hoops. 

I live and die in hoops to the point where they literally rust to my ear but I never feel the need to splash out on them. I am a huge fan of Primark jewellery, eventhough it's all plated gold and silver it doesn't green stain on your body, it doesn't look cheap and nasty and although they don't last forever, you can afford to replace them easily (plus I am prone to losing jewellery.) I thought I'd push the boat out and buy 5 so I can switch it up and they will last longer and the best bit is they were £1! Incredible, when I was going to spend £1.50 on one pair. (Disgraceful, I know!)

Keeping on the subject of earrings I bought these flower earrings in pastel pink. 

They are studs with a slight drop and they were super pretty and are the type to make any hair/make-up/outfit look that slightly bit more elegant. I also have my Nan's 90th coming up so I've bought a boho type maxi dress in the same colour so they match perfectly. They were only £2 and can wear them with anything. 

Next up, I bought the egg make-up sponge. 

Now, I purchased this for a reason. Everyone has hyped about the beauty blender for so long and at £1.50 this is a very similar, bank account friendly version. I have and will never comprehend paying out for the real one and as someone who has never got on with make-up brushes and use my hands, i thought this was the time to try it out. I've seen so many bad reviews and beauty snobs dissing it but personally, it might be because I've never used anything before, it applies my make-up evenly and so much better than I ever did and I can't complain. It doesn't absorb the water very much, which I find a plus because who wants a soggy face? The only thing I would say is the sponge does stain a little and it is harder than a sponge but I think people expect far too much considering the price. At £1.50 I will be repurchasing when needed. It's a major revelation for me.

It's Halloween next week so I had to end this post with the theme and my favourite purchase. Black, glittery, spider-web fashion nails.

I have to admit I squealed a little when I saw them, they were so cute and were only £1, I just had to buy them! Unlike some cheap nails, these actually contain nail glue instead of the crappy adhesive stuff which is a major plus. I've heard good news about Primark glue and it didn't disappoint. The nails were simple to apply, they immediately stuck and literally do not budge. (I only lost a few because they got stuck in my jean pocket!) The pointed edge are manageable and overall just add that subtle touch of Halloween spirit without going overboard. With 24 nails you can use them multiple times and even if one pops off theres enough glue to re-stick! Again, incredible for £1 and look at the quality!

So that's it. My satisfactory haul!

Dear 12 Year Old Me ...

Dear 12 year old me,

You've just started your first year at Secondary School, to put it bluntly it's going to be an emotionally draining, rollercoaster ride and that's on a good day! But eventhough I came out alright, I survived, there are a few things I'd like to give you hints and tips on to make the school experience just that bit more bareable. 

• It is NOTHING like Primary school, not everyone is your friend. Just because they said hello to you doesn't mean you're suddenly in their clique, oh god no. Those "popular" groups you secretly want to impress and be a part of, they don't last long by belittling everyone. By Year 9 the majority of your year group would have integrated a bit like High School Musical so they are virtually unheard of by Year 11. Concentrate on the real friends you have made.

• Do not do that dreadful Bebo chav pose when you make your profile. Honestly, it is not worth the stick or hype. You will definitely regret it. HAHA.

• Brands you wear do not define you as a person. Without sounding like a middle-aged woman, this isn't a fashion show no matter how much everyone makes it one. It's school, we all wear the same uniform just in different ways, BE COMFORTABLE. Do not splash out on an ugly Helly Hanson coat or Nike trainers that will apparently go out of fashion within a week. Trust me, Primark will open soon in Plymouth and 90% of girls in your year will be rocking £3 envelope bags that you can't fit anything into. (WHO REMEMBERS THOSE BEAUTIES?)

• I'm all for being yourself but girl invest in some tweezers and stop shaving your monobrow, you will soon regret it and end up spending the rest of your teens trying to even out your brows, I wish I was told this sooner!!

• Girl, foundation and lippy will change your life but please you are pale as a snowflake, you need to use 000 or 001, don't raid your mothers or use 3 different Miss Sporty liquid foundations, absolute no no! And don't get me started on that pastel-pink-mixed-with-foundation lip shade.

• Hair. Now everyone suffered with the last little bowt of headlice in the first year but to prevent this, use Full Marks Mousse and wash your hair frequently WITH conditioner. Also your natural hair colour is bland and it needs taking care of but here's a little spoiler; by the time you are 16 you will be that dream blonde you've wished for. Maybe even invest in the colour sooner to avoid the ginger stage.

• Be more outgoing. Stop being so insecure, it makes you an easy target. Be comfortable in your own skin and if you know the answer to a question, girl put that hand up high! If some girl starts on you, don't be a push over, you are more intelligent and worth a million of that little wannabe. Rise above it, these girls and boys are not intimidating at all, they are no different from you they just have a gob on them and think it's big and clever to disrupt a class. FYI it's not at all. 

• Work hard. Doing all your homework, listening to the boring bits, even doing the "optional" classes will prove very beneficial in the future. Take every opportunity and choose your subjects wisely.

It's going to be okay. Life will give you obstacles and there will be rough times throughout but stick with your friends and be yourself and you can't go wrong. It's a long 5 years but it truely is the best days of your life so make the most of it.

Time To Face The Chop

 

Over the past 3 years, I have become infamous for having the bleach blonde long hair but recently I have been getting bored and fed up with it. I have to use literally half a bottle of shampoo and conditioner to even make it feel smooth, it gets caught in EVERYTHING, it takes too long to dry and even more effort to style. As you may know, I can be very lazy but I think the final straw for me was when I was casually eating my dinner a few days ago and spaghetti sauce got stuck in it, I mean HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?

Don't get me wrong I love my hair and the colour but I think it's time for a change, to get rid of my split ends and to give my hair a tone down and rest. It's also the perfect transition from teens to adulthood since in 21 in 4 months! Christ that's scary!

I think every now and again it's healthy to make a change so goodbye my long blonde mane, it was nice knowing you, it's been emotional! And hello my look. Debuted on my blog eeeek!

I haven't had shorter hair in such a long time and I'm searching for products that will really give it a boost and make it feel lush so any suggestions would be much appreciated!

REVIEW // Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

TIME TO FIGHT MY DRIED PRUNE SKIN!

I'm very lazy when it comes to looking after my skin, it tends to be very dry and I don't moisturise as much as I should and I barely take my make-up off at night which is really bad. I'm quite lucky in the sense I have never suffered with acne or been through the spotty teen phase, I just get the odd annoying spot every now and again but I'm also very cautious when it comes to choosing what to use; my skin does become prone to irritation especially from perfumed based products. But recently, I have really become determined to improve my skin care routine so I feel confident without make-up and prevent looking like one of The Twits, when I'm older.

I've decided to try out Garnier's Micellar Cleansing Water along with my Skin Therapy Slightly Fragranced Face Wipes that I already use (when I can be bothered) to get me motivated. When watching skin routines on YouTube so many vloggers rave about cleansing water being perfect for removing make-up and generally making your skin smoother, it also doesn't require rinsing, what's not to love?!

I've been applying it with a cotton wool pad in the morning to refresh my face before make-up and I've found my foundation applies alot better than it used to which is a major bonus point. Another plus is that it's bank account friendly with proven results. Sometimes you don't have to pay extortionate prices for the best outcomes.

However, I think when using it to remove make-up you have to take into consideration how heavy your make-up is and what type of products you use. Don't get me wrong it does the job but I must have gone through at least 6 cotton wool pads and it's time-consuming so I've been using a face wipe aswell to speed up the process.

I would recommend this product, and other cleansing waters as it makes your skin feel amazing and clean. If you wear minimal make-up this is perfect for you, however don't rely just on this if you enjoy applying alot more make-up especially eye make-up unless you have time and a bag full of cotton wool pads before you go to bed!

I will keep an update of my progress, I'm already seeing alot of difference and I've also purchased some face cream from Avon to treat my dry skin so I may do a review on how I get on with that aswell.
